What It Is: The L’Equip FilterPro Dehydrator is an electric home appliance that preserves all kinds of fruits, vegetables, and meats (think homemade jerky) by drying them slowly in stacked trays. A dehydrator is especially a handy appliance to own when your garden is laden with more fruits and veggies than you can use at once or when there are seasonal buys on food.
Why We Like It: The secret to perfectly dried foods is to be sure that each piece of food dries evenly throughout. This means that drying food inherently calls for some hands-on attention on your part, such as slicing foods to the same thickness and rotating trays. The L’Equip FilterPro includes a variable computer-controlled temperature sensor and a constant flow of filtered warm air to gently remove moisture. These features plus a timer make it convenient and easy to use. We prefer this model because it requires less rotating, dries more uniformly than other dehydrators, and is easy to clean. We dried apples, peaches, nectarines, plums, made fruit leather and kale chips, all with top-quality results. Our one wish would be that the instruction booklet contained recommended temperatures for drying different foods. After some research, we found that 140 degrees F. worked well for the foods we dried. This model also includes yogurt containers for homemade yogurt.
